Things You Should Know If You Want To Remove Gel Polish At Home

Gel nail polish is great. It lasts longer than regular nail polish, holds its shine, and won’t chip. But there is a downside to this quality: Gel polish can be a real pain to remove.

Furthermore, removing gel nail polish at home is a time-consuming and tedious process. The whole ordeal can take anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour. It requires a certain amount of patience and a lot of cotton balls.

However, if you do it right, you can save a lot of money by doing it yourself instead of going to the salon.

It’s pretty easy to take gel polish off at home — if you’re patient. So don’t try this when you’re in a rush! Here are some supplies that you’ll need:

  • 100% cotton balls
  • Cotton pads or squares
  • A non-acetone nail polish remover (acetone will dry out your nails!)
  • A cuticle pusher
  • Orange sticks or wooden cuticle sticks

Here are the steps for removing gel polish:

  • Do not peel it off
  • Do not pick at it
  • Don’t soak in hot water (warm water will do)
  • Gently file away the top layer with a coarse grit buffer, without pushing down hard
  • Soak a cotton pad with non-acetone nail polish remover and gently place it on top of your nail
  • Wrap your finger into aluminum foil using a Q-Tip
  • Let sit for 10-15 minutes then remove the foil and cotton pad
  • Repeat until gel is fully removed

Conclusion:

You can save a lot of money if you remove your gel nails at home by yourself instead of going to a salon. You just need to be patient and practice to ace the art of removing gel nail polish at home.
